WHAT IS ZENTANGLE?

Zentangle is an easy-to-learn method for creating beautiful images by drawing structured, repeating lines and patterns. Anyone can do it—no artistic experience is required. Even if you believe you “can’t draw,” Zentangle will surprise you.

Zentangle art is non-representational and unplanned, allowing you to focus on each individual stroke without worrying about the final result. Each pattern is created using a predefined sequence of simple strokes. You don’t need to know how your piece will turn out—you simply stay present with the process, and the finished image unfolds naturally. The result is often a delightful surprise. This is why the founders of Zentangle, Maria Thomas and Rick Roberts, say, “Anything is possible one stroke at a time!”™

For many people, the most remarkable aspect of the Zentangle Method is its meditative quality. By slowing down and focusing on each stroke, your breathing naturally deepens, your mind becomes calmer, and you enter a state of relaxed mindfulness. Zentangle has helped many individuals who find traditional meditation challenging, and it has even been used by cancer patients as a calming practice during chemotherapy treatments.
